Retro Rooster Collage - recycled art

10 x 14.75 mixed media (watercolor, acrylics, newspaper, napkins, catalog pages, ink) I composed over a failed geranium watercolor. The rooster head and neck were from a former failed barnyard painting with him and 2 hens that did not quite work.  The hens I cut out also and adhered to an old shack scene called "Chicken Ranch", that should still be on this blog.  His purple legs just kill me; feathers in front are from newspaper photos of old wood.  It is a conglomeration of elements with a whole lot of country style and was fun to make.

This is wonderful! I love it! It's so different and un-ordinary!
I have a question for you. I am planning a new watercolour at the moment - Something inspired by my favorite artist, Shirley Trevina. I want to paint a small section of it over newsprint and I am not sure how best to stick the news print on to the watercolour paper without making it unable to absorb the paint. Are you able to advise me at all? Do I just use paper glue or should I use something else?

Thanks Sandra! I love Ms. Trevena's work, too. I think you will have to adhere the newsprint archivally so it will last, so paint on it first, let dry, then coat both sides of newsprint to stick on your paper. Hopefully it won't lift off the paint. I'd use matte medium and not a gloss medium. I've not tried this so let me know how it goes.

This one here has portions of newsprint (see upper right weather forecast plus "feathers") and if any paint is on these areas it is probably acrylic, for permanence, stability, and archival quality.
