22x30 watercolor painted yesterday on Fabriano 140 lb cold press paper. This was one of the photos presented for a WetCanvas timed challenge for which I was the host. Background was warmed up using burnt sienna and raw sienna to mimic a hot southwestern day. Our temps are in the teens now so this one warmed me up.

Poppy Pearls
6x4 alcohol inks on professional photo paper painted yesterday using yellow, dark red, orange, pink, and true red colors. Stems and leaves were put in by adding a light pale green to the tip of a wooden chopstick.
I like how the inks mixed and mingled into each other in this field of poppies art.

December Days
4.25x5.5 watercolor on Fluid 140 lb cold press paper done yesterday of an imaginary winter landscape complete with snow and overcast skies. I wanted to use color combinations never tried so for the sky burnt umber + phthalo blue were mixed and same colors throughout except for the buildings which was Indian red. That red stays on my palette but is not popular as it is opaque. I mixed a grey of what colors were in the mixing part of the palette for the frozen water. Distant hills were softened with a damp brush. I am trying to paint better landscapes along with portraits, two subjects that are not easy.

Bad Boy
8.25x5.25 mixed media collage in my grunge/junk journal done over the weekend. Over a gessoed page I collaged a page from National Geographic that was treated with CitraSolv solution; portions of original text and patterns can be seen. Acrylics and antique staining ink used on the face and page to age it along with white gel pen in this imaginary gangster in my current outlaw series.

Flowers Everywhere
6.5x5 watercolor on Fluid 140 lb cold press paper done recently as part of an online WetCanvas challenge in the miniature forum. I loved the floral patterned cup and saucer set holding an hydrangea blossom and the white pitcher vase behind with salmon pink flowers.

Merry Mermaid
6x4 alcohol inks abstract on professional photo paper along with Micron 01 ink; I sketched the female figure last to take advantage of the natural curves seen within the abstraction of the two green inks. This also works as a wood nymph!

Baby Face Nelson
Well, I have an eye for a guy and here is one cutie bad ass boy, Lester Gillis, aka Baby Face Nelson. A notorious 1930s bank robber and murderer he was a criminal associate of John Dillinger, having begun roaming Chicago streets as a teen. With his 5'5" stature and innocent looking face, he quickly was dubbed Baby Face, although no one dared to mention it to him. He was assassinated at age 25, a life of crime that didn't pay. Charcoal sketch in my junk journal over gessoed page, pencil, latex acrylic pink paint, Montana acrylic marker in blue (reference to "baby" colors), and collage. This is #6 in my outlaw series.

Icy Wind
9x12 watercolor, gouache, and white wax crayon painted yesterday for a quickie winter landscape. I used a limited palette of sepia, indigo, quinacridone violet for primaries and just a touch of ultramarine and phthalo green in the windy sky. This is on Canson XL 140 lb cold press paper using the back side which is slicker allowing the pigments to run and mix.

Clint Eastwood as the Outlaw Josey Wales
5.25x8.25 charcoal sketch today on junk journal page that had been gessoed. I used Distress Ink spray by Tim Holtz mixed with water and a large brush to weather the page. This is another in my outlaw series of notorious wild west guys whether in movies or real life. As Clint Eastwood has been an idol of mine since watching him portray Rowdy Yates in Rawhide and seeing all his movies, he was the natural favorite choice.

3.5x2.5 watercolor on 140 lb cold press Fluid paper recently done as I was in the mood for happy blackeyed Susans or rudbeckias in a miniature format. Commonly known as artist trading cards, or ACEO (artist cards editions & originals) these tiny treasures are fun to paint and to trade or to sell. The image below is its normal size in perspective.

Classy Santa in junk journal
8.25x5.25 another image done yesterday in my junk/grunge journal. He's a classy Santa in his black trimmed suit. I sketched in hard charcoal pencil over gesso, then added acrylics and three snowflakes collage. Also I used peach marker for skin tones and watercolor for eyes. Colors should do well to spiff up the old 1959 discarded book I'm using for a journal. Image courtesy Li Newton/WetCanvas in a weekend drawing event. Participants have 2 hours to select an image and paint or sketch it.

One-eyed Outlaw in Grunge Junk Journal
8.25x5.25 mixed media collage portrait sketch of Cole Younger (1844-1916) in my grunge junk journal. Sketched in hard charcoal pencil and black felt tip pen, on other areas I used colored pencils, marker (flesh tones), pencil, on tea stained old book page. He was one of the Younger brothers gang who teamed up with the James brothers to rob banks and trains and spread murderous violence right after the Civil War. Even though he's been dead 101 years it has not been that long ago as my grandmother was 12 years old in 1916.
