Cattail Cluster

15x11 watercolor on 140 lb cold press Bienfang paper, a support not used in a long while.  These cattails were growing in a small marsh along Warrior Road in Ruidoso New Mexico when I shot this in the fall.  You can see where redwinged blackbirds have picked at their inner material causing a pale whitish yellow fluff almost like cotton.  Other reeds grow alongside in perfect natural harmony to provide rest and food for wildlife.  This one took about 2 days to complete.

Red-Winged Blackbird on Cattails

12x4.75 watercolor and ink on old ledger paper done a few days ago.  I drew the bird with a black Tombow brush pen then added watercolor, painting in a quick but direct manner.

Cattail Marsh Birds Landscape

11x15 watercolor, brush only, of a marsh complete with cattails, ducks, and redwinged blackbirds painted recently.  The birds were enjoying their natural habitat in this landscape with water and grasses.

East Texas Foggy Landscape

11x15 watercolor on 140 lb cold press Daler Rowney paper done today from a few photos my friend Carole in east TX sent.  They are having foggy, cold days also.  Of course my version has more color than the actual foliage, trees, weeds, water and marshy areas.  The only real true to life depiction is the grey murky sky.  There's a small amount of negative painting as well in this rural winter landscape.
