Threatening Sky

5.5x8.5 watercolor using Da Vinci and White Nights paints, an imaginary stormy landscape done last week. This is in a mixed media sketchbook an is a limited palette of two colors: Payne's Gray and Naples Yellow. For the tree I did use a bit of mixed brown. Using these two opaque colors was quite a fun challenge. COPYRIGHT Kay Smith 2025

Krakow Evening

8.5x5 watercolor on Fluid 140 lb cold press paper begun yesterday then finished today as part of another weekend drawing event on WetCanvas.  For the 2 hour time limit, I managed to get it done in about 45 minutes.  With the silhouetted buildings the sky was an opportunity to create some dark, dancing clouds in the fading evening light.

Ibis Shore

9x12 watercolor on Canson 140 lb cold press paper done yesterday as part of the current Weekend Drawing Event on WetCanvas! as hosted by Tanya.  This flock of ibis shore birds and a few gulls was sketched on paper I'd used under smaller works to catch drips, hence the multi-marked surface.  I thought it was perfect for the overcast day, water, shore, shells and debris.  A boat can be seen in the distance closer to opposite shore.  As a 2 hour timed event, I completed this in one hour.

Clouds Ocean Trees Landscape

10x22.5 acrylics on gessoed watercolor paper painted this week on Tuesday during Bob Burridge's acrylic workshop in Lubbock, TX.  An imaginary scene, I've done the foreground in dark silhouette framed by light and stormy clouds and pale orange underglow.  The entire paper was painted first using a mixed orange tone.

Cow Moose

15x11 watercolor on 140 lb Arches cold press paper, another recent moose wildlife with an imaginary landscape.  In this one, I placed a cow moose in foreground in front of a vast lake with western mountains in distant background.  A cloudy sky hovers over the land.
