Tulip Twists

7x9 watercolor on Fabriano 140 lb hot press paper done today; combination of refs taken mid-February in Ruidoso NM of red and white tulips. At first I didn't see the lone red stripe on the variegated bloom so that was a nice twist. Tall Cactus with Peach Background

10x8 watercolor on Canson 140 lb cold press paper just completed , a pencil sketch based on earlier cactus paintings I've done. Marked backgound of random colors, shapes, and designs is the result of using paper to put underneath small and miniature ones to catch drips. 12x9 black India ink applied with a twig and a chopstick onto watercolor paper instead of using graphite. The instructor for day 27 of the 30 faces challenge suggested using other tools such as these to do your portraits. I quite like the looseness of the image and the pirate hat. Hot Lips Valentine

8x5.5 mixed media collage in my second "new" junk journal, a book published in the 1940s. As inspiration I used part of a glossy magazine cover that featured lots of hot colors. After sketching a heart shape in acrylic I collaged part of a paper doily and adhered inside the shape with matte medium. A white gel pen outlined large red acrylic lips.
