At Dell's Cafe

16x12 watercolor on 140 lb cold press paper done in January; photographed this lonely bearded man at a local cafe on a very cold day. The light grey jacket probably was all he had to wear on his lunch out in town. Currently this portrait is in the Louisiana Watercolor Society exhibition and earned my final third point for signature status. COPYRIGHT 2022 Kay Smith

Brownbeard

8x10 alcohol inks on paper done today, another imaginary bearded man to go with the first one posted two days ago, Blackbeard.  This ugly fellow's ear was the beginning shape I used after putting Burro Brown, Ginger, Yellow, and Havana Brown down then blowing with canned air.  Cotton swabs dipped in 91% alcohol were used along with a chopstick for removal and making lines.  Mantilla black and Ginger make up his beard while Tangerine highlights the nose.  A new light blue ink was put around the eyes and top of ear.

Bearded Man

8x5.5 on Strathmore Visual Journal mixed media paper.  I drew him today with Pigma Micron 01 pen then added watercolor wet on dry.  A photo of an unknown European bust was the reference; our WetCanvas challenge was to make him appear human.  The bust had long wavy hair and full beard.  He looks like he just found out his health insurance was cancelled.
