Three Geranium Pots ~ demo
Three Geranium Pots ~ demo
15x11 watercolor on Strathmore 140 lb cold press paper demo done a week ago Saturday at our all day painting class. A few finishing touches were added later but for the most part the geraniums and pots demonstration was done in an hour, wet on dry. Some white gouache was added to the pots for residue to show the painters how a heavier opaque interacts with transparents.

Geraniums Garden Party
15x22 watercolor of red and pink geraniums in clay pots that I painted about 2 years ago. Recently on a Saturday paint out, I was able to find another variegated leaf type as in the center pot here; love the whitish yellow on leaves edges. So the new pot is by the front door waiting to be painted, and this work on 140 lb cold press paper is SOLD.

Porch Scene with Cat
15x22 watercolor, another imaginary porch scene with shutters, white wicker and potted daisies and geraniums not to mention the lovely kitty relaxing on the cushions. An underpainting was done first, allowed to dry, then design was drawn, with a stencil stamp of old cardboard used to make a woven wicker pattern.

Norma's Calico
9x12 watercolor on Strathmore 140 lb cold press paper, Daniel Smith paints, of my friend Norma's kitty named Callie. The geranium pots are imaginary and I positioned the puss between them as if taking a little rest undisturbed.

Old Goat Cart
22x15 watercolor painted wet in wet on Saunders 300 lb cold press paper from an old New Mexico scene in a southwest style patio. The cart was loaded with potted plants and vividly colored annuals such as geraniums. I particularly like the long diagonal shadows of the vigas.
