August Hummingbird

7.75x7.75 alcohol inks, gouache, ink pen on white slick foamcore done this afternoon first by scattering Willow green on top of spritzed 91% alcohol.  After it dried I could pick out a hummingbird shape so sketched it in using Lictin 0.3 permanent ink pen.  Feathers and beak are gouache.  Lastly I added Senorita Magenta for the pink blooms he is guzzling from here.

Chickadee with Watercan and Pansies - Demo

11x15 watercolor floral still life with bird and watering can, a demo done last night for Brownfield Art Association.  I had previously drawn the composition that featured my old metal watercan and fresh pansies, photographed a few years ago.  The chickadee was added as if he just flew by and stopped to check out the Spring colorful annuals, and will fit nicely into my series.  This was a timed demonstration of one hour, wet on dry using Canson 140 lb paper with Daniel Smith paints.

Zinnias and Butterfly

22x15 watercolor of my studio zinnias with a perfect butterfly perched on top doing his daily routine.  The title of this older painting is "A Summer Day", and as today was cold and windy after a first fall freeze last night, I thought of butterflies and blooms with longing. But still do have pansies and ornamental kale to keep some color going in the windowboxes.  This was painted on cold press 140 lb. paper.
