Summer Sunflower Chickadee

4x6 watercolor on 140 lb Canson cold press paper done last week. I first did an underpainting using the three primaries. Prickly Pear Cactus Surprise

6x6 watercolor, India ink, and gel pen in Masters Touch sketchbook done a few days ago, a quick design to use up colors for a mixed black (Permanent Brown (Daniel Smith), phthalo green (Dick Blick), and Indanthrene blue (Holbein). When dry black ink dropper tip used to make scattered line marks for the prickly pear cactus pods and white gel pen for other marks such as thorns and spots. COPYRIGHT 2023 Kay Smith

15x22 acrylics and watercolor on Fabriano 140 lb hot press paper done last week over an older toy tigers painted in 2009. I flipped it upside down then sketched the figures with Tombow brush pen nib. Desert Yuccas

8x8 gouache over charcoal sketch of desert yucca plants done last Monday, first of May. Not sure where I got this decorated paper but it proved to be a nice support for the colorful dry vegetation.
