Nature's Sunflower

7x5 mixed media on book text page done first of the month while away on art show. I've used an old novel about the secret service and the White House, sketching with Winsor Newton grey 0.3 fine liner pen. It is painted with White Nights watercolors, acrylics, and white gel pen. Look closely at the sunflower center and see it is a tiny White House. COPYRIGHT Kay Smith 2026

Free Lunches mixed media collage

5.5x8 mixed media collage on pink archival art paper done today during our Odessa Art Association meeting where we were given supplies and about 30 minutes or less to make something.  I used washi tape, special deckle edge scissors, magazine and book clippings, scrapbook paper, children's book page, and food advertisements.  It was my first time to use washi tape; you can see it in two different patterns along the bottom and sides.

Trees in mixed media

5x7 mixed media collage on book text done a few days ago as part of another wacky challenge presented in a WetCanvas forum.  We were only told to do trees using mixed media, no references or guides of any kind. I chose to make mine imaginary using alcohol ink blots on a brown Wendy's napkin, adhering with matte medium onto a discarded book page.  Trunks and branches were sketched in using Micron 01/03 pens, then filled in with Koh-I-Noor Magic pencils, a colored pencil made up of 3-4 different colors.
