Proud Poppies

11x15 watercolor on Masters paper 140 lb cold press begun yesterday using brush only, no pencil sketch beforehand.  These colorful poppies are in an online contest and they sing a message of Spring and sunny skies.  Daniel Smith paints used along with #14 round brush.  Direct painting and no glazes or multiple washes.

November Poppies in alcohol inks

12x9 alcohol inks on freezer paper shiny side done today using no references, so totally imaginary poppy shapes.  With the inks I began by using Sangria red and making an oval shape for the largest poppy, then blowing air to move ink across.  Other reds, pinks and yellows followed with yellow on background; a mixed blue was brushed on in spots and lime green along with willow was used.  I like the top almost centered poppy pod and the one on the left top that were accidents.  Stems were made by moistening a cotton swab with 91% alcohol then pulling down thru other colors and adding different greens.

Poppy Panache

16x28 watercolor on Langton 140 lb cold press paper, drawn from imagination and excitement over painting poppies again.  Some of the blooms are fragmented, upside down, windblown or curvy, but each has its own panache in this loose, splashy floral.
