Ramshackle Barn
9x5 watercolor on Canson 117 lb cold press done first week of this month while getting ready for our annual Alto Artist Tour show. With this imaginary barn in the countryside I've tried to show its aging structure with the onset of winter.

Countryside Barn
11x6.5 watercolor on Saunders 140 lb cold press paper, done the second day of Tim Oliver's workshop held at the Midland Palette Club on March 23-25. (Ref courtesy of instructor). Using mostly Daniel Smith paints this was done wet on dry using lots of water with large mop brush. I enjoyed painting this old barn and farm setting located somewhere in west Texas.

Open Field
7x9 watercolor using White Nights paints done last week for another Landscape forum challenge on WetCanvas; ref courtesy Matilda. With this one I liked the openness of the field, the bright color mid-ground and the shadow covering it from the foreground upwards. This is on 80 lb paper in Master's Touch sketchbook.

Old Mail Pouch Barns
7x9 watercolor in Masters Touch sketchbook 80 lb paper done week before last from one of my earlier barn photos I have painted before. Love the old advertising Mail Pouch tobacco signs that are seen in some very old farm barns in the American landscape.

Winter's First Day
8.75x9 watercolor on 140 lb cold press paper done today, an imaginary scene of old ramshackle barn on the first day of winter solstice. Some snow is evident on the surrounding trees, roofline, and foreground. I used an old black and white barn photo kept for many years so all color is made up. Some Gansai Tambi graphite colors were used in background trees.

Behind the Barn
5.5x8.5 watercolor using White Nights paints done last week using no reference, a glimpse into farm life behind the barn. Probably everyone's barn had a corner where fence meets the building. In this scene, I have weeds growing tall, while fields can be seen in the distance.

Geese Gossip
6.25x9 watercolor on #CansonPaper 140 lb cold press done today as part of a timed weekend drawing event on WetCanvas.com Photo ref courtesy of host Tanja. For the background I first stamped paint on a grasscloth piece and stamped its pattern. When dry I put color glazes in green, brown, and blue tones over that. With simple subjects a patterned background is a must. My total time was about an hour out of the allotted 2 hour limit.

Old Country Church
5.5x8.5 watercolor on Masters sketchbook 80 lb paper done over the weekend for the WetCanvas All Media Art Event. Artists have a 2 hour time limit to select an image and then paint or draw their choice. If not done then they are to post the unfinished work in progress at the 2 hour mark. I liked the old building all alone with storm clouds brewing above the hayfield.

Red Barn Chickens
22x15 watercolor of chickens on the farm pecking around the hay bales
below the quintessential red barn. Just as the rooster crowed to
welcome new hot sunny days we are glad to see warmer temperatures in Texas.
