Beach Drink
9x6.5 watercolor using White Nights paints on Canson 117lb cold press paper done first week of July while on an art show trip. With this imaginary beach still life I'm seeing a cool drink on the hot sands. Also wishing I could visit the coast and enjoy the surf, waves, and relax a bit.

Seaside Shells
6 1/8 x 6 3/4 watercolor on a scrap of Saunders 140 lb CP that had pale yellow, blue, and pink wash underpainting. I drew imaginary shells and water then when dry splattered white and raw sienna mix to resemble seafoam and water on the beach. These small seaside themed still lifes are fun to paint.

Beach Beverage
5x7.75 watercolor on Italia 140 lb cold press paper painted over this past weekend from an online miniature painting challenge. I love the shadow the drink cast upon the sunlit beach sand and the distant water.

Laguna Beach
5.5x8 watercolor on Strathmore Visual Journal 140 lb cold press paper, a beach scene I painted last week in my hotel room while everyone else was in the bar or gambling. I don't paint that many landscapes unless the area is interesting and familiar.

Shoreline Kitty Hawk NC
15x11 watercolor on Canson 140 lb paper, done today BRUSH ONLY no pencil of the Kitty Hawk beach in North Carolina, a place that was magical. I cropped out the waterfront houses and stretched out the shoreline in this vertical landscape, so appropriate to paint on a day of icy sleet and cold north wind.

Little Girl with Red Pail
8x5.5 watercolor over ink sketch, ultrafine tip black Sharpie and Strathmore Visual Journal, of a young girl headed to the beach. I am trying out the new journal and really do like its paper for watermedia, which is 140 lb cold pressed and acid free. It will take watercolor, pen and ink, collage and marker.

Bermuda Brunch
15x22 watercolor on Saunders 140 lb cold press paper, Daniel Smith paints of a brunch table setting in Bermuda. After painting this best of show winner I sold it to some of our dear friends a few years ago. All the lines and keeping whites pure was a real challenge in this ocean side still life.

Final version Just Beachy
Yesterday I worked on this one again adding texture for sand onto the towel all around using American Journey Coastal Fog and white, then intensifying shadows. Hopefully it reads better now, so let me know.
