Duck Pond

22x15 watercolor on Saunders 300 lb cold press paper that is the reverse side of Cosmos Clouds posted yesterday.  It is an older simple view of a white duck and abstract foreground from one of my pond wildlife photos painted wet in wet.  So if someone purchases the duck they get the cosmos watercolor as a freebie.

Bottoms Up goose

5x7 watercolor of a Canadian goose diving for fish for his supper.  Painted wet on dry Arches 140 lb cold press paper this afternoon.  Pigments used:  Daniel Smith quinacridone burnt orange, UB, manganese; DaVinci raw umber; American Journey midnight blue, raw umber violet, periwinkle blue.

Not Quite Darryl Hannah - mermaid garden

22x15 watercolor on WN 140 lb cold press paper, painted wet in wet.  I saw these iron mermaids surrounding a small pond at an ironworks store in New Mexico so had to paint them; they must have weighed a ton and were larger than life.  Sadly the store closed and all garden statues have disappeared.

Floating Foliage-lilypads

10x8 watercolor on Saunders 140 lb cold press paper of lilypads and blooms floating on water.  Some negative shapes can be seen within the array of vivid colors.  This painting is SOLD.

Pond Patterns Lilypads

22x30 watercolor on Saunders 300 lb cold press paper from photos of lilypads in a neighbouring town.  I have reglazed some areas and enhanced others that needed attention as this one was started awhile back and not completed to my satisfaction.  Look closely and you can see a few insects buzzing around the flowers.

Finished Work: The Deep (brush only)

I added kosher salt, let dry, removed that, reapplied paint in some areas that were too light, then laid plastic wrap into wet paint. After that dried, lifted it off and did the spiky fish top right, bottom right one, the upper middle red small koi. Then far left fish with his mouth open and lastly the big guy in foreground. All developed using a brush, NO PENCIL, negative painting. I tried to lose edges, put darks next to lights, etc. No photo refs either. I re-wet top left and added salt again for texture. Lastly I splattered paint for bubbles as if underwater. Look closely you can see coral reef sticking up in the foreground. I'm sure it is full of mistakes but it sure was fun being creative and not copying photos for a change; this is real art folks!
