Valentine Heart ~ Happy Valentine's Day!

12x12 torn paper collage on canvas is now finished after a 3 day work in progress, about 2-3 hours per day or more. I think the colors are great with the reds against neutrals. I did several coats of gloss varnish by Liquitex over it for shine and preservation. So many things are included in the heart such as blush brushes, red sofa, red dress, dice, jukebox, flowers, an apple (for that Adam and Eve connection), a lobster (for that romantic dinner), Tabasco hot sauce bottle, Big Red soda, and tomato juice. Old Fashioned Love

7.5x7.5 watercolor,ink and collage elements on Crescent matboard done this afternoon at a paint out. I first placed a heart paper doily from the dollar store on the mat then outlined each space with a 0.3 STA Lictin pen in black. Next cut out rose images from gift wrap and a cocktail napkin and collaged on with glue stick. Center romantic couple was cut out from French toile paper. Next background was colored in using transparent watercolor using a #1 script liner brush; rose shapes began to appear so those were further developed by negative painting. COPYRIGHT 2021 Kay Smith

Heartthrob ~ Happy Valentine's Day!

7.5x7.5 mixed media on matboard done this afternoon using the following media:  Watercolor, Brusho crystals, Montana acrylic markers, white wax crayon to sketch outline, black India ink, and Liquitex pink fluorescent acrylic applied with a palette knife.  Happy Valentine's!

Valentine Cupcake

8.5x5.5 watercolor on paper done last February for Valentine's Day.  This month there's been no time to do any heart art.  But this frosted cupcake looks yummy and won't cost you any calories at all.

Love Climbs Heart Balloon

11.25 x 8.75 acrylics on gessoed 140 lb watercolor paper done last week in Bob Burridge's Lubbock TX workshop.  Bob showed us how to take a support that had leftover paint dabs and smears then negatively paint around a large heart shape air balloon and ladder.  This is the same concept used on how he develops floral bouquets, etc.

Valentine Love

12x8.5 mixed media collage on gessoed matboard begun yesterday then finished today right in time for Valentine's Day tomorrow. Several layers of acrylics cover and recover before heart shapes were sketched in.  Lastly I collaged a paper napkin that had been stamped in black ink with a script verse; red part is alcohol ink.  In addition, the inks were added to white acrylic for some amazing color variations.

Vanilla Valentine

9x12 mixed watermedia on watercolor paper done yesterday for my 14 day valentine challenge.  First I drew a heart outline with white Crayola then made random marks with that over a scrap paper background.  Next I had white and light pink Montana markers along with Taylor's Pink Flamingo watercolor fill in the heart.  Using raw umber watercolor mixed with white gouache the back was done.  As it was too bright and I wanted a shabby chic look, I coated the entire page with off white latex acrylic after wetting back and front then lifted some paint off with paper towel.  When dry stamp letters spelled out the title Vanilla Valentine.
