Pear Shenanigans

6×6 watercolor plus ink using STA Lictin 0.2 pen on Masters Touch 80 lb sketchbook paper done over the weekend in under an hour. I sketched its outline in pencil, then placed 3 round colored adhesive dots at bottom and top. Next I coated them with matte medium and let dry a few minutes, lifting them off. Then paint was added but the round areas didn’t do much resist. Splatters at random using several colors was done. When dry some were outlined in ink as was the fruit itself for a little patterning. Midnight Pear

Pear on Checkered Cloth

6x4 mixed media on watercolor paper 140 lb cold press done last week, the first in a short series of pear and apple mixed media works. I used Brusho crystals to color in the pear over oil pastel sketch, then watercolor to follow. When dry, an outline using colored India ink was put around the pear. COPYRIGHT 2022 Kay Smith

Pretty Pear Collage

8.25x5.25 mixed media collage in my junk journal done today on a page already had sprayed with walnut ink stain and a dictionary page part collaged onto it. Left side red letter text was junk mail from Publisher's Clearing House. Sketched using alcohol based markers, the pear was put in using other junk mail and magazine for torn paper collage effects. Coffee Grinder & Pear

7x5.5 watercolor over ink line with Micron 0.3 pen completed today.  The ink sketch was done yesterday for #InkTober2019 for the prompt word 'ancient' which the coffee grinder certainly is.  The red pear adds a nice modern day kitchen touch to this simple still life.

Green Bowl of Fruit

8.5x11 colored pencils, Inktense, and watercolor colored pencils completed today for this week's Sketchbook Skool assignment for the Colored Pencils Klass.  It is done from life in Crescent sketchbook.  The directions were to draw from life as realistically as possible.  I used Staedtler and Derwent brands and fake fruit in green pottery bowl with braided handles for this still life.

Red Pear on Doily

12x9 watercolor on Strathmore 140 lb cold press paper, a short demo this afternoon for my art students.  I drew a pear outline in white Crayola crayon, then laid in quinacridone gold, gamboge, arylide yellow, orange, red, UB, carbazole violet, and permanent rose.  Stenciled the doily using paper and painting the holes.  Colored pencil in purple was sanded over wet wash for texture; water spritzing, splatters, and spritzing colored dilute wc paint was done for more texture.  I even added Caran D'Ache watersoluble wax crayon lower right of the pear and the stem. Finally a background multicolored wash was loosely applied with manganese blue, green gold, and a mix of UB/alizarin crimson for the shadow when totally dry.  Just a little fun one using primary colors.
