Rose Petals

15x22 alcohol inks on Yupo synthetic paper done yesterday, an exercise in abstraction using only 4 colors of Willow, Sunbright Yellow, Watermelon, and Raspberry. I'm playing with the inks on a larger surface so may take this one further.  It reminded me of scattered rose petals hence the title.

The Blue Beyond

5x7 alcohol inks on Yupo synthetic paper done today.  Not having much time today I got three colors of inks out and the small Yupo.  Using Willow, Honeycomb, and Indigo I created this abstract landscape with several layers of blown color.  Canned air is much faster to push the ink around than using a drinking straw.

Flame and Fortune

9x12 alcohol inks on Yupo synthetic paper done yesterday, a floral abstract using only 3-4 colors.  With a warm color palette I've got a touch of green and aqua in the background while gold, yellow, and orange dominate the foreground.

Palm Sunday Rose

7x11 alcohol inks on Yupo done today for Palm Sunday and in honor of those Egyptian Christians attacked and killed while worshipping.  Aqua used for the sky, Willow, Botanical and Sunbright Yellow for green areas, and new Flamingo at flower top along with Valencia (also new), Poppyfield, and Senorita Magenta for the entire flower.

Valentine Letter

5.25x5.5 alcohol inks on Yupo synthetic paper done yesterday for my valentine series.  This has a couple of red inks and when dry I applied a rubber text stamp with black in on top.

Purple Heart Valentine

5.5x5.5 alcohol inks on Yupo medium weight synthetic paper done today using two purple inks: Currant and Purple Twilight by Tim Holtz.  I had first drawn a heart outline using a white Crayola wax crayon hoping the ink would stay within its shape but did not so just went with the flow and enhanced with 91% alcohol and blending solution to get a smooth background.  I like how both purples separated into blues and reds.

Buffalo Gap Tulip demo ~ day 14 of 30 paintings in 30 days challenge

5x7 alcohol inks on Yupo synthetic paper, today's first demo of three, for Abilene's Cultural Arts Center. The art organization meets in the old historic Buffalo Gap, Texas village.  This one is also day 14 of Leslie Saeta's 30 day challenge she hosts each January and September internationally.  With this abstract tulip I left the background the white of the paper.  A limited palette was used:  Watermelon, Sunbright Yellow, and Stream.  Stay tuned next couple of days for the other demo pieces and an upcoming all day class on alcohol inks is TBA in Ballinger, TX, hosted by Mid-West Texas Artists Guild.

September Sunflower ~ alcohol inks on Yupo

7x11 alcohol inks on Yupo done tonight as a demo for Big Spring Art Association and also for day #20 with Leslie Saeta 30 day challenge.  Beginning with yellow dropped onto alcohol prepped Yupo, quickly added magenta then red.  When about dry, blue was put in for the third primary color, resulting in green.  The group seemed to enjoy seeing new products used to create art.

Abstract Leaves ~ alcohol inks on Yupo

7x11 alcohol inks on Yupo done a few days ago, another experiment using Pinata brand inks.  Yupo is a synthetic plastic paper invented by the Japanese first introduced to the printing world and marketed as Kimdura.  Many artists including myself have used it for years, preferring its main attibute of slick surface texture to that of traditional cotton paper for watermedia.  Easy to erase mistakes with all media used on it, including the inks, but ink dries very quickly.  With this I used two greens, one yellow, and dark blue.  Dots of magenta were put in last for contrast amongst the leaf shapes.

Sunflower Seeds ~ alcohol inks on Yupo

7x11 alcohol inks; so here is number 4, another so called floral using Pinata brand alcohol inks begun yesterday then finished today. With it, I focused on its centre rather than petals, having patterning and design elements closely focused. This is my last sheet of Yupo so it was cut in half.  I did use a wooden chopstick to apply ink rather than the plastic bottle tip for a lessened amount and smaller dots.
