Desert Yuccas
8x8 gouache over charcoal sketch of desert yucca plants done last Monday, first of May. Not sure where I got this decorated paper but it proved to be a nice support for the colorful dry vegetation. Using an older yucca sketch of ink line and wash, the plants were quickly sketched and then painted. My original sketch was from a New Mexico scene.

Las Cruces Yuccas
7x9.5 watercolor on Ecosystem sketchbook paper completed today. Photo courtesy Jo Castillo/WetCanvas for Southwest forum's February challenge, minus the telephone pole. The tall yucca plants with their spiky leaves reach upward in the hot landscape.

New Mexico Yucca
8.5x11 watercolor and ink (Uniball pen) on Crescent Rendr sketchbook done last week while driving between Socorro and Carrizozo, New Mexico. I stopped to photograph the land in its desolate beauty; yuccas were the only living thing to be seen for miles in this semi-arid country.

Mission Gate
11x15 watercolor on Kilimanjaro 140 lb cold press paper, another daily painting, simple and imaginary scene of the southwest. We just need a couple of donkeys to make it complete.
