Another Floral of Tulips to Banish the Winter
Painted yesterday from life, here's another watercolor done on a textured background using 1/2 gesso and 1/2 water over hot press Fabriano 140 lb, followed by a light application of Winsor Newton texture medium. When dry I sketched with watersoluble colored pencils then painted flat allowing colors to run and mix. A few lines of wax candle were put in before painting and a few marks with Caran D'Ache crayons done at the end. Also I marked into wet paint with CPs and did color sanding with coarse sandpaper into wet areas. I was trying for a painterly soft yet romantic floral. This is 22x15 inches.
A photo I took last year is posted first so you can see the vase in a more realistic light.

Lovely and fresh Kay! I like your painting better than the real thing!
Kay this painting is just delicious!
Thanks Nancy and Margo!
I'd like to start playing with texture mediums as it seems so many other people are! The effect is so much more interesting. This is beautiful! :0)
Definitely give it a try, Sandra, it is fun really.
So beautifully painted!
