Rust in Peace (old car)

11x15 watercolor on Arches 140 lb hot press paper, of an old antique jalopy car, broken down and giving up the ghost on an abandoned road.  Parked and left to rust in peace, this ancient vehicle slowly crumbles and settles into the earth.  I did negative painting around its sides and background for trees and branches, overgrown and reaching out to cover the junked metal automobile.  For this work I used only 3 colors:  Winsor Newton Alizarin Crimson, Antwerp Blue, and Arylide Yellow which were spritzed onto dry paper, blended, then developed.  (Ref courtesy WetCanvas)

Old Lamesa Truck (demo Big Spring Art Association)

11x15 watercolor on Kilimanjaro 140 lb cold press paper/Daniel Smith pigments, painted last night for Big Spring Art Association.  Meetings are every third Tuesday at 7 pm, basement Howard County Library in Big Spring, TX.   The old rusted shell of a truck may be 30s or 40s but is vintage vehicle for sure.  I've reversed it from earlier versions, eliminated distant distracting houses, telephone poles and old junk.  Image is COPYRIGHT 2014 Kay Smith and can be seen for purchase on my Daily Painters gallery site (link in right sidebar).

Rust in Peace

11x15 watercolor of a broken down and rusted out old roadster.  On this one I used a limited palette and was able to do lots of negative painting in the foliage surrounding the junky car.  These antique vehicles are fun to paint and have a character all their own.
