Longhorn Pasture
4x9 watercolor on Canson 140 lb cold press sketched yesterday and painted today using American Journey and Daniel Smith paints. I photographed this longhorn named Cuernos (Spanish for horns) on the Tierra Linda ranch by Kerrville. His beautiful black and white markings made him a standout in the hill country pasture landscape. I used a black and white photocopy to work from and the colors are imaginary.

Lamesa Longhorn
4x6 watercolor and white gouache done last week over a magazine card from New Mexico publication. This old fellow lives north of Lamesa, TX on the Stevens place. When we drive by he is usually resting like this and was when I shot the photo a few years ago. Now he has another longhorn for company there.

Oklahoma Longhorn
8.5x5.5 watercolor drawn in pencil which is today's work. I photographed this fellow a few years ago on a trip to Oklahoma checking out the Chisholm Trail, but never had painted him. Some negative painting is included in the grassy areas and I added storm clouds behind in the sky.
