Three Gourds

6x6 watercolor and ink line using STA Lictin pen 0.3 done last weekend in Masters Touch sketchbook. This was featured on WetCanvas All Media Art Events forum in the weekend drawing event; participants have 2 hours to complete their chosen art. I've moved the gourds closer together than they were for compositional purposes and enjoy how they have turned out. COPYRIGHT 2023 Kay Smith

Golden Melon

22x15 watercolor on 140 lb cold press paper with DaVinci/Daniel Smith paints. A collection of fall gourds cluster together in old iron urn. I particularly like their twisted stems, leaves, and vines.  This is an earlier work from 2012 that remains one of my favorites.

Pumpkins and Gourds

11x8.5 watercolor and ink on Strathmore for mixed media paper from sketchbook.  I used a Micron 01 ink pen for this fall still life scene that was done a few days ago.  It was enjoyable to paint pumpkins in their vivid oranges, light yellow golds, and greens; the gourd was fun with all the colors in its stripes.

Basket of Gourds - palette knife watercolor

11x15 watercolor still life on Italia 140 lb cold press paper, completed this afternoon using palette knife only.  No pencil drawing nor brush used and I worked from a black and white reference.  I began upper left by spritzing fine mist water onto dry paper then laying in pure fresh color with the knife tip for autumn leaves and the woven basket.  Assorted colorful gourds rounded out the composition, and lastly, I made calligraphic marks with edge, side, and tip of the knife.

Gorgeous Gourds

10x14 fall harvest pumpkins and gourds in an old bucket, a still life I set up a few years ago.  Look closely and you can see where negative painting was done in the background.  Love the colors of autumn!
