#InkTober day 20 ~ Iridescent Irises, alcohol inks
7x10.5 alcohol inks on foamcore done today for the 20th day of the month #InkTober challenge. For each day of October every year artists vow to produce or create one work in ink. I'm really enjoying the vivid hues of the Pinata and Tim Holtz brands of inks. These colored shapes reminded me of iris blooms hence the title. An upcoming demo will be for the West Texas Art Guild in Colorado City using alcohol inks.

Purple Irises
8x5 watercolor, ink and collage on paper finished today. Yesterday I drew these glorious purple irises, aka flags, which grow in my side studio yard. After the ink line with Micron 01 pen I collaged sentences from a novel for all the white or lightest value areas, then painting was last. Today was spent correcting values and adding iris veins in most of the petals.

Dancing Silhouettes
23x35 watercolor on Yupo, medium weight synthetic paper. These irises were drawn from studio garden plants and there was one lone dark yellow and brown one so it was included as the center of interest. Background was left white so the bulbs would stand out more. Definitely Spring!!! Finally we had almost 1/2 inch of rain yesterday which will help the plants.Monday, April 26, 2010
