Kingbird Threesome

4x6 watercolor and ink using STA Lictin 0.3 pen on Grumbacher 140 lb cold press paper I'd been using under smaller work to catch drips done today. I like how abstract marks such as these random colors support a more realistic subject as the kingbird. Birds were sketched in pen then minimal color using Payne's grey, sepia, and indigo for the darks; barbed wire fence they are on was painted with burnt sienna and quinacridone burnt sienna. Kingbird Trio

3x5.5 watercolor on Canson 140lb cold press paper finished today from one of my many hundreds of bird photos. These three kingbirds were sitting on a barbed wire fence.
