Spring Tulip Trio

2.75x3.75 watercolor painted last week on Grumbacher 140 lb cold press paper using Prestigify paints, brush only, with no pre-drawing. This is just a fast and easy exercise. Background is more yellow green than the yellow presented here. COPYRIGHT 2023 Kay Smith

May Tulips

15x11 watercolor of the pink and variegated tulips done today on 140 lb cold press paper by Masters Touch.  There's hardly any tooth to this paper which is what I like as the paints run together.  This was for another timed WetCanvas online event in which we had 2 hours to find an image and paint it (Weekend Drawing Event).

Pink Joy Tulip

4.25x2.75 watercolor on 140 lb cold press paper done today, a totally imaginary tulip bulb that bloomed in my mind.  Two hues of pinks, Permanent Rose and Wild Fuchsia, were used as was New Gamboge, and a mixed green for the stem.

Lavender Purple Tulip

For now this WIP is finished unless I decide to add more color.  As a high key imaginary floral it is not too bad.  15x22 watercolor on Saunders Waterford 300 lb cold press paper.

Purple Parrot Tulips

3.5x3 watercolor on Langton 140 lb cold press paper done this evening, a miniature painted using brush only very quickly.  This pair of parrot tulips are imaginary and are a mix of ultramarine blue plus quinacridone red.

Palette Tulips

12x9 watercolor on Canson 140 lb cold press paper painted last week from one of my photographs.  The image was shot of a pot of red tulips in front of my oil palette there in the studio.  I had painted it right after that years ago and showed more of the wooden palette edges rather than the colorful background this one has, and I like the newer version best.  It was one of the photos I had listed to use on WetCanvas online current weekend drawing event, and it was done in 1.5 hours out of the 2 hour time limit.  Other artists were too nervous to paint it, not sure of how to do the background.

Parrot Tulip Blend

30x22 watercolor on Lanaquarelle 140 lb hot press paper done previously.  After painting so many pet portraits lately I thought it was time for a spring floral!  You can see them blowing in the wind.  Personal photo refs used.
