Sunflowers WIP continued

It is petal time now! The fun part begins.  Using same yellows and gold, I am putting light values next to middle values next to darks as with yellow everyone who paints knows you cannot darken yellow.  I will lightly dip into raw sienna, but very dilute, as it is an opaque and I enjoy its rich warmth.  Quin gold is more transparent but very close in value strength.  You can see I also used a small amount of transparent pyrrol orange by Daniel Smith, maybe my favorite color in the orange and red analogous color groups.  Time to close the studio and finish up tomorrow.

WIP Watermedia beginning painting

Now is time to begin laying in color, the fun part, behind the lower right sunflower and background.  I will probably leave in the white areas left that were under the coffee filters as that might be a nice suprise element.  With no photo references to guide me, this one will be pure intuition and color sense, or just plain nonsense!

Work in Progress: Blue & White Morning Glories

This bottom image shows you that I selected a blue and white morning glory photo taken at Lake Ransom Canyon. I turned the paper vertically then drew in pencil over the acrylic underpainting, but will paint in watercolor. The flowers will not be identical to the photo as I'm not doing photorealism, but fine art. Middle image shows top right background design; background will be very interesting with lots of shapes and other ephemera whereas flowers will be simple. They already have the underpainting to establish a varied pattern of cool blues and whites.

Tulips Demo step 17

Now I've done the third orange with green bloom and completed the middle tulips, then started on the pale orange lower left as seen here, trying to overlap shapes and put darks against lights and vice versa.

Starting with a vivid photograph of my tulips, I've sketched in the basic drawing directly onto dry Saunders 140 lb cold press (NOT) paper. Beginning with darks first on dry paper I'm laying in Prussian blue mixed with small amount of phthalo green by DaVinci. I don't always start with the background first but will with this painting. Feel free to ask questions as we go along.
