Pinto Pony

18x12 watercolor on Canson XL 140lb cold press done mid-February, another imaginary horse frontal view equine art. For this I used mixed dark browns and middle value black hues and like the loose look it has. COPYRIGHT Kay Smith 2026

Painted Pony

22x15 watercolor that is now SOLD.  It was painted over a white peony floral that I didn't like.  Look closely and you can see the flower centers.  After horse outline was sketched in I used mostly darks to fill in the background and some greys for shading values.

Ready to Ride

15x11 watercolor and black India ink on Canson 140 lb cold press paper, done yesterday. My total time was 1 hour and it was drawn using a General's carpenter pencil, flat lead. I eliminated other figures and horses in the background, and strived for a loose splashy and spontaneous look.  This is featured in WetCanvas weekend drawing event/photo ref courtesy Gail Bowers.
