Donkey in the Desert

12x9 watercolor on 140 lb cold press paper done about third week in December. I had painted the donkey then wanted an interesting background so added saguaro cactus and old faded barnwood boards. Daniel Smith paints were used. COPYRIGHT Kay Smith 2025

Adobe Gate

6.5x4.5 mixed media on brown sketchbook paper done mid-January 2022. I used watercolor, white gel pen, Brusho, and sketched with STA Lictin 0.1 pen. In this imaginary southwestern art scene I've tried to impart a sense of the dry desert. COPYRIGHT 2022 Kay Smith

Cactus Jack

12x9 watercolor on Strathmore 140 lb CP paper, Daniel Smith paints.  I started with a limited palette of quinacridone gold, permanent rose, and manganese and cobalt blues, doing an underpainting first.  This is from my photo taken on the Tucson VA hospital grounds where was lucky enough to see a still jackrabbit posing for my camera.  The saguaro stands tall, the guardian of the desert, over all living creatures.
