8.25x5.25 ink sketch done today in my junk journal. Image provided by Sktchy. The man's face and hands were done using a black rollerball pen and India ink for his jacket. Watercolor used for whites of his eyes and the peanut candy while blue Montana marker makes up the background.

Texas Jack
John Wilson Vermillion, also known as " Jack" or later as
"Shoot-Your-Eye-Out Vermillion," was a gunfighter of the Old West known
for his participation in the Earp Vendetta Ride and his later
association with Soapy Smith (Wikipedia). Mixed media in my junk journal using Micron 01 pen, charcoal,
watercolor, colored pencils, oil pastels, acrylic markers, alphabet ink
stamps, 8.25x5.25, done last days of September. When time allows I'm still exploring notorious outlaws of the wild west in my series on them.

Spring Fling for National Scrapbooking Day
6x4 mixed media (Brusho, collage, Montana markers, Caran D'Ache NeoColors) for National Scrapbooking Day, always the first Saturday in May. I usually miss it but not this time. I cut out a section of a failed tulip painting done with Brusho then added the catalog cut out woman in a straw hat; her dress was already part of the painting. Blue, yellow and pink markers applied to background and tulip, then ink line to form her shoulder done with Micron 03 pen. The word Spring was collaged on also. I do not have an official scrapbook so this will have to do!

Darkhaired Gal
8x5 mixed media on sketchbook paper done today from a Tombow brush pen sketch outline last week. The paper was not slick therefore the black ink did not spread much when water added, so I applied watercolor to the figure then Montana acrylic marker to the background.Image COPYRIGHT Kay Smith 2017.

Thai Dyed Woman
30x22 mixed media painting on 140 lb paper that is one of my reworked pieces. This used to be a horizontal Santa Claus face in acrylics and wax crayon that was pretty bad so I turned it vertically and sketched with black ink a Thai woman profile. Using artist's acrylics, ink, watercolor, and gouache along with latex acrylics put in colors of her costume. This work is SOLD.

Beverly - mixed media figure
22x15 charcoal drawn figure on 140 lb hot press Fabriano paper with gouache paint and Caran D'Ache crayon accents. Paper was prepared by adhering old phone book pages with half matte medium and half water then pulling off leaving parts of the Fabriano visible.
This woman was at a neighborhood hat party and had her eyes closed while talking. Background elements are imaginary abstractions.

Step 5 figure
Hey, I don't look too bad half dressed, ha! I think the blouse will be done in blues and purples with some white, painted very quickly. The brown bag straps and belt were done with quin burnt orange, Carbazole violet, and quin gold. Skin tone were American Journey Peachy Keen, Apricot, QBO, and permanent rose. Already I can see my left arm is too skinny so will alter that. Hair colors: quin gold, raw sienna, burnt sienna, UB, and arylide yellow. step 4 figure

Contour Line Drawing
Here's a contour line drawing on the back of a failed tulips painting on Arches 140 cold press paper, 22x15. I used a black 01 Pigma Micron pen and began at the top of my head working all around, never letting up on the pen, as you're supposed to do with these type drawings. It is a bit more freer than trying to capture a photorealistic image. I'll add texture next, let that dry, then stamping, painting, adding and subtracting areas until it starts to look like a woman holding her purse. The bleed-over of colors from the tulips does not bother me and this will be a fun adventure in preparation for my 23 April class "Funtastic Figures" here in Big Spring. So stay tuned!
