Henry Boston Terrier

8.5x5.5 liquid pencil in sepia by Derwent, a graphic sketch using a brush of another artist's dog.  This was painted earlier in the month and is the second time I have painted her Boston terrier.  The Derwent set of liquid pencil has permanent properties but this sepia tone is not; it lifts right up if you make a mistake and is designed to resemble lead pencil.

Henry, Boston Terrier

7x9.5 watercolor and ink (Pitt pen XS by Faber Castell) on Ecosystem sketchbook done this weekend during a timed 2 hour event on WetCanvas.  The dog, Henry, belongs to host Susan Smith.  My maternal great-grandmother, Cynthia J. Garner Reese raised these dogs. She was related to our 32nd Vice President of the US, John Nance Garner, aka Cactus Jack, a Texas lawyer/legislator.  In addition, my mother-in-law Maxine Key Zant owned them as well.

Sleepy Boston Terrier

7x9.5 watercolor and black Tombow brush pen on Ecosystem sketchbook done today.  First I used a rocks and stones design stencil with opaque and transparent orange tones over the white paper.  When dry, I sketched the Boston terrier with the Tombow and filled in black areas.  My photo had a leopard print behind the dog and a white blanket in front; he had his head on top of a dog toy.  So I filled in the background with Blue Bice (Cheap Joe's American Journey) and Transparent Pyrrol Orange (Daniel Smith), ignoring the rocks and stones shapes.  All in all he made a cute sketch almost as if he is dreaming of being outside.
