Ginger the Bunny

Petal Pushers

15x22 watercolor of still life tulips set up in my dining room by an old oil painting. The light from the window behind illuminated the spring blooms perfectly. Indigo Iris

7x11 alcohol inks on Yupo medium weight synthetic paper done a few years ago when I was in an iris mood. They were blooming everywhere you look. With this floral abstraction I've used three colors of ink: Indigo, Eggplant, and Watermelon. Canned air was used to blow the ink from the bottom up and the white of the paper is its only background for simplicity. COPYRIGHT 2021 Kay Smith

Rainbow Parrot Tulip

Another Spring Flower

Daffodils for First Day of Spring

Purple Iris in Brusho

12x9 Brusho on Canson 140 lb cold press paper done today from a studio iris.  Sketched with Magic multicolor pencil on dry paper I then mixed purple, blue, and lavender Brusho crystals separately in small containers with water then brushed it onto the iris petals.  Background is a bit more muted and not as green, and for that I used moss green, olive green, green, and yellow.

Orange Tulip Row

6x9 alcohol inks on paper card just done, a rather abstract floral of orange blooms complemented by their green foliage.  Seeing these imaginary tulips help put us all in a Spring frame of mind.

Daffodil Days

9x4.75 watercolor on Canson 140 lb cold press paper begun Saturday night then more done yesterday. I could not make up my mind about adding background color so have left it white for now.  The bloom's stem is out of the picture plane for a bit of tension, having the flower front and foremost in this imaginary floral.

When dry, splattering was done using a loaded brush on the background.

15x22 watercolor on 140 lb Saunders cold press paper, a wet in wet approach to this lovely frilly open tulip.  With florals I like to explore all angles and take unusual viewpoints when setting up the composition.
