Wild Red Bloom

4x6 mixed media (watercolor, acrylics, and white gel pen) on 140 lb Grumbacher cold press paper done last week in my postcard series. Red Weed Flower

Red Burst

6x4 alcohol inks on paper done last week as a quick studio demo for friends.  Using only two colors this floral ink bloom was created.

Red December Floral

5x7 alcohol inks on white foamcore done yesterday as I needed a warm explosion of color for the dreary day.  First layer was a mix of purple and pink, then green.  Red was applied last along with pink and yellow.

Internal Flower ~ alcohol inks

8x8 alcohol inks on white foamcore done today.  Since the design was taking the shape of stamens and petals I decided it looked exactly like the inside center of a flower.  The inks are a bit more easily controlled when using foamcore as a substrate or support. Valentine Rose

6x6 watercolor and ink line wash on Masters paper using Micron 01 pen and Daniel Smith paints.  Drawn from life this afternoon in about 5 minutes using a dark red rose that was in my birthday bouquet, I quickly added several hues from pink to magenta to new gamboge to royal red blending all together.  Thanks to my friend Barb for the flowers!

Big Red (hibiscus)

10.5x7 watercolor on Yupo, drawn today with a brush only, then painted from one of my red hibiscus blooms. After doing so many neutral toned animals, I was ready for a bright splash of hot color! At least the hibiscus are still blooming like crazy in this 102 F.

Dark Red Amaryllis

32x22 acrylic on black paper, an older floral drawn from life that I just love and thought would share its vibrancy with you.  It was drawn carefully with pastel crayon then painted in; some areas are outlined in black acrylic.

Red Lion Amaryllis

15x22 watercolor floral, drawn and painted from life a few Christmases ago.  I left the background white in an attempt to make the red blooms more vibrant.  Support used is 140 lb cold press paper with DaVinci/Daniel Smith paints.
