Crazy Pink Chihuahua

8.5x6 watercolor and Pigma Micron 01 pen of a crazy chihuahua, painted wildly one weekend on Color Sketch paper. No reference used and a different color palette, not local color. This one reminds me of one of the two chihuahuas I had growing up. COPYRIGHT 2021 Kay Smith

Best Pals - Cat & Chihuahua Cover Art

6x6 watercolor and ink line on Masters sketchbook paper done almost 3 years ago, a pair of friends raised together who are best pals.  This piece was chosen by the Journal of American Veterinary Medical Association for their December 2016 cover art.  Their publication reaches 88,000 members across the country.  I still have the original and will add to my Animals gallery on ArtSpan website and enable for prints.  It is nice to be recognized in this manner for my pet portraits, and a big salute and thanks to all our hardworking veterinarians!

Best Pals - Cat and Chihuahua

6x6 watercolor and ink on Masters paper of a young tabby kitten and fawn colored chihuahua snuggling together on a cold winter's night.  I've posted the ink sketch to show how I set up the painting stage.

Crazy Pink Chihuahua

8.5x6 watercolor and Pigma Micron 01 pen of a crazy chihuahua, painted wildly this past weekend on Color Sketch paper.  I'd seen a very small chihuahua in a girl's purse on Friday at the hospital where I work, and he looked a lot like one I had growing up named Peanut.  That fellow was given away after he "christened" my new Barbie doll and her house and Corvette...In this work, he seems to be saying "I'm baaaaaacck!"

Cheeky Chihuahua

11x8.5 mixed media (watercolor, Caran D'Ache crayons, ink) on paper.  This fellow reminds me of a tiny Chihuahua I had growing up, a registered dog weighing less than 2 lbs, named Peanut.  After catching him peeing on my Barbie dollhouse, he found a new home with a neighbor, and I switched to cats.  This painting is featured on our new Tumblr blog, http://bowwowsandmeows.tumblr.com/ that Vernita Bridges Hoyt and I started recently, so check it out!
