Royal Rooster

8.5x5.5 watercolor using White Nights paints done last of December in a WetCanvas weekend drawing event 2 hour challenge. This is painted on Canson 117 lb paper. The reference that we were given was that of the entire rooster but I've cropped most of the bird's body to focus on its head and neck. COPYRIGHT Kay Smith 2025

HenReeEtta

8x5.5 acrylics in junk journal, a book published in 1946, done last weekend. I sketched the hen over a page that I'd put red acrylic on to use up leftover paint. The ref was part of another weekend drawing event on WetCanvas. Lots of fun to crop the photo and add local colors. COPYRIGHT Kay Smith 2025

Barred Rock Hen

4.5x5.25 watercolor and Brusho wc crystals on 140 lb cold press paper done yesterday.  First I wet the feathers area then dropped black Brusho into that, letting the crystals mix and mingle.  Red areas were watercolor using red and red orange.  Background was a mix of indigo and sepia.

Klimt Kritters

4.25 x 6.25 done with Pigma Micron 01 pen on 140 lb watercolor paper in the Gustav Klimt genre.  A whimsical chicken and a border collie have nothing in common except Klimt!  I had first sketched this years ago then recently took it out and made value adjustments and color changes in this semi-abstract piece.
