Trashy Trashy Poppies

12x12 mixed media collage on matboard (media used: watercolor, gouache, ink, newspaper, paperback novel pages, yellow rice paper, cocktail napkins, gift wrap, doily, decorated craft paper).  Matte medium used to adhere collage elements by coating front and back with 1" flat sponge brush for house painting. This watermedia collage is based on an earlier poppy themed work.

Reds A Poppin'

15x15 watercolor on Canson 140 lb cold press paper done today for a timed challenge of 2 hours or less and I painted it with 10 minutes left.  Painting the red poppies in a direct manner wet on dry, I used primarily Perylene Maroon, Transparent Pyrrol Orange and Alizarin Crimson (Daniel Smith) and True Red (Grumbacher).  Darker red shadow areas had a mix with ultramarine blue, quinacridone violet, and thalo blue.

Poppy Pose

8x8 watercolor on Italia 140 lb cold press paper painted a couple of days ago, still trying out the new wc paper.  This was done wet in wet also and the colors still sink into the tooth too much.  Sorry yesterday's post was absent due to no Internet connection.  I'll be trying another floral wet on dry to see if the paper improves.

Poppies and Clouds

4x6 alcohol inks on professional photo paper done today on the back of a failed one.  Turning it over I decided to use the blue grey color that seeped onto the back as clouds, and add Senorita Magenta ink drops to make poppy shapes.  Green lines were all made by putting an ink drop onto the tip of a chopstick then using it to draw, even laying it on its side and rolling it.  Spots of alcohol 91% were added here and there to encourage blending and dilution.
