Hollyhock Shades ~ demo

7x9 watercolor demonstration using White Nights paints on sketchbook 80 lb paper done this past Monday for my art class, a wet on dry direct painting approach with only one application. I did have to enhance one shadow spot on this dark pink hollyhock upper right once it was dry. This is from a photo I took when tall old fashioned hollyhocks were growing around the studio. Hypnotic Hollyhocks

16x12 watercolor on 140 lb Arches cold press paper done this afternoon for a 2 hour timed online event. I managed to go over by 4 minutes.  The pristine white hollyhocks take center stage as they guard the garden. Look closely and you can see orange tiger lilies peeking through at center bottom.  The old fashioned, tall stately blooms never cease to put me into an hypnotic state almost.

Hollyhocks Hurrah

1/2 sheet Italia 140 lb cold press, WN paints, of pink and red hollies seen blooming their last hurrah while recently in Prescott, Arizona.  No pencil drawing was done, brush only, and I added leaves, stems, and other shapes in the background.  Plain water was used with #12 brush to outline shapes then colors dropped in and allowed to mingle as watercolor should be.  Size is 15x22 inches.

Finished! After a couple more hours I can say it is done and was a joy to work on this simple cottage garden scene.
Now on to the next one whatever that will be as only my muse knows.
