From the Florist
15x11 watercolor watercolor on Canson XL 140 lb cold press done last month from my photos of florist flower images. I used Rosa paints for some of the quinacridone pinks and corals. These were wrapped in red paper probably for the Valentine part of February.

Roses in Indigo Vase
4.5x4 watercolor done on Canson 140 lb cold press paper. After painting winter snow scenes this is more in line with my character. Old Fashioned Love
7.5x7.5 watercolor, ink and collage elements on Crescent matboard done this afternoon at a paint out. I first placed a heart paper doily from the dollar store on the mat then outlined each space with a 0.3 STA Lictin pen in black. Next cut out rose images from gift wrap and a cocktail napkin and collaged on with glue stick. Center romantic couple was cut out from French toile paper. Next background was colored in using transparent watercolor using a #1 script liner brush; rose shapes began to appear so those were further developed by negative painting.

Flowers in Round Red Vase
4x6 mixed media on paper done today, an imaginary floral still life of acrylics over alcohol inks. The ink version was too abstract so the flower idea was done with a mixed gray on right side for the background and left side is inks as is the red vase.

Posies
8.5x5.5 India inks/Micron 01 pen on Bienfang for mixed media sketchbook begun yesterday and finished today. These watermedia flowers could be poppies, roses, or tulips hence the posies title. I only used blue, yellow and red inks and mixed the green using blue and yellow. Not too bad for a 20 minute imaginary exercise.

Studio
5x7.5 watercolor on 140 lb Saunders paper done en plein air when I first planted roses at my studio south wall. I had a wooden cut out of three white ducks with a stake that is in front for garden art, then I lettered Roses on a wooden vent cover under the window. The trim then was red with purple shutters and now is fuchsia pink trim with pale green shutters and a buttery cream painted stucco.

Candlelight Roses - completed WIP
Finally finished with the romantic still life over the weekend! The lace tablecloth and curtains gave me fits as did the many reflections in the silver candlesticks. This was an exercise in using mixed grays to enhance pure color of the fresh roses. Size is 15x11 watercolor on Strathmore (reverse side to allow more happy accidents).

Candlelight Roses work in progress (WIP)
This is grey ink sketch using 3-4 different colors done today using old silver candlestick and imaginary roses for a work in progress watercolor I'll post as I go. I flipped the candlestick and drew it higher on the right side for balance, then added a red and black bowl as seen in the beginning image below.
15x11 watercolor on Strathmore 140 lb cold press paper and Daniel Smith paints, about 1.5 hours of work this afternoon during the pouring rain (thank you Lord, for the rain!) Stay tuned. Another New Year's resolution for me was to resolve to paint more still life. So this one is my 4th still life, and I have done even more but they are ink sketches that have not been shown.

Abstract Roses
15x22 mixed watermedia on Arches 140 lb cold press paper with wet in wet watercolors and gold spray paint. Design element shapes were made with outlining round plates and using a ruler overlapping and darks laid in first under shapes to push them forward. Cotton bandaging was pulled apart, then put over that, wet, then dropping various blues and reds. When dry, spray paint was applied outside. I began to see rose shapes, petals and stems so enhanced what I saw adding and subtracting. Its focal point thus contained the largest red rose shape. Lastly, stamping was done with small circular rubber stamp at random.
