Antlers

18x24 watercolor on Canson 140 lb cold press paper done over this weekend of an imaginary buck deer amidst swirling leaves. His eyes are closed indicating sleep during winter approaching with its wind and snow flurries. Note the antlers morphing into tree branch shapes and lines. Majestic Caribou

9.75x3.5 watercolor on Langton 140 lb cold press paper sketched and painted today from some of my older wildlife photos taken on various trips.  This lone fellow looks so majestic against the backdrop of an imaginary mountain range.

January Buck in Snow

7.5x5 acrylic over Micron 01 ink drawing of a snowy buck done a few days ago in my Moleskine sketchbook.  This fellow has snow on his antlers, forehead, and his back.  Blowing snow makes up an abstract background.  A limited palette of Liquitex Hunter's Green, burnt umber and raw umber along with white paint is what was used.

Mountain Moose in Velvet

11x15 watercolor on 140 lb cold press paper done earlier in the month along with other wildlife and woodland scenes for hunting lodge art.  It comes in handy to have a passion for animals and an imagination for different landscape settings along with wildlife refs.  As I don't feel I do scenes well it helps to combine landscapes with animals.

Stag in Snow

12x9 watercolor on Canson 140 lb cold press paper.  I've made the trees and snow background up but saw plenty of male deer or stags since going to the mountains last week, plus lots of elk.  I will attempt to paint more elk.  A very large herd can be seen off Hull road in Ruidoso, NM.  This buck had quite a large rack.

Electric Elk

 8.5x6 colored pencils on ColorSketch grey toned paper drawn Friday and finished today.  I like using dry media as it is faster and gives some amazing results.  Colored pencils are as pictured below with my first 3 on the right, Magic Pencils by Koh-i-noor, available at Michael's stores.  Newer product on the left are also swirled leads of different colors at WalMart.  They are not watersoluble.  Both elk antlers are done with two separate pencils and just look at the variation in each.  If you like to try other art supplies these may be just the thing!
