Floral on Black

14x11 poured acrylics on black painted canvas done last week, no brush, no reference, just the paint and a palette knife.  I tried to make red poppies and a lily.

Monday Poppies

5x6 alcohol inks on white foamcore board done last Monday using only a few colors of ink.  The two reds were going to be something else until I added a dark color called Eggplant at the bases of each.  Then they appeared to be more floral than fiery, especially when stems were put in using an old dry felt tip marker.

Plant Parade

15x22 watercolor on 140 lb Saunders cold press paper, painted from my own amaryllis blooms.  I intentionally left the background the white of the paper so the lilies would stand out.  With only reds and greens, this complementary color palette has been successful for me the many times I've used it.  This painting is featured now on the Florals/Botanical forum channel on WetCanvas during February's monthly challenge for the plant parade.
