Woven Flowers of Passion

15x22 work is actually two identically painted scenes of pink roses in front of a house. The original was ho-hum boring so a few years later did another exactly like it as I'd saved the drawing. I got the idea of weaving them together after seeing the work of Nancy Maas, which is much looser and not as tightly woven. One painting you cut wavy strips horizontally, and the other cut vertical strips, then weave in and out. When done I vacuum mounted onto acid free matboard to frame it. Last Rosebud

2.75x3.75 watercolor painted a few days ago of one of my last red rosebuds.  Today I've seen a few more.  This is on 140 lb cold press paper.

Rose Impressions

6.5x11 watercolor and pink/crimson Brusho crystals done today on 140 lb cold press Langton paper.  Yesterday I started it by spritzing water over dry paper at random then applying two new colors, Holbein's Bright Pink and Opera over wet areas.  Then Brusho was sprinkled over that and again water spritzed over the scattered crystals.  I used canned air to blow the wet pigment for an abstract background. When dry today I began isolating white and pink shapes reminiscent of roses and negatively painted those and green leaves and stems.  Quinacridone violet and alizarin crimson are the shadowed areas using a #1 script liner brush.

White Roses

22x15 watercolor of some of my climbing roses planted in the front of the house.  This is painted wet in wet on 140 lb Saunders cold press paper. I snapped several photos when they were blooming at their peak then painted them. Not happy with the mid section it was reworked and more negative leaves, stems, and thorns added. My favorite part is the rosebud upper right. It was painted wet in wet and colors allowed to mix and mingle.  Daniel Smith paints used.
