Pink Desert Saguaro

15x5.5 watercolor on Blick 140 lb cold press paper, an imaginary pink desert scene done a couple of weeks ago while on a trip out of state. The pink tones of the sand echoes throughout the sky and other desert landscape parts such as vegetation, rocks, hills, etc. The icon of the desert is the stately saguaro which I never tire from painting. Patio, La Placita in Lincoln, New Mexico plein air

12x16 watercolor on 140 lb cold press Arches paper. In downtown Lincoln, New Mexico I went on location to paint plein air. This small building closed with a sign saying 'La Placita' and had a covered patio with plants growing. Its stone wall was charming as were the vines and trees by the blue grey house. There is negative painting seen in the background. In this historic area one may remember the Lincoln County War and famous outlaw Billy the Kid. COPYRIGHT Kay Smith

I loved the huge yucca and its shadows and the contrast of the hotel's white stucco against a painterly sky. COPYRIGHT 2023 Kay Smith
