Revelation ~ reworked Trumpet of the Lord

22x15 watercolor and gouache done in May, a reworked scene that was an ascending angel above trees. It is now a mission with stormy skies, white doves, clouds and a foreboding that reminded me of the words in Revelation. I kept the trees at the bottom foreground. This is on 140 lb cold press paper. Old Country Church

5.5x8.5 watercolor on Masters sketchbook 80 lb paper done over the weekend for the WetCanvas All Media Art Event. Artists have a 2 hour time limit to select an image and then paint or draw their choice. If not done then they are to post the unfinished work in progress at the 2 hour mark. I liked the old building all alone with storm clouds brewing above the hayfield. COPYRIGHT Kay Smith 2020.

House of Worship

8x6 watercolor in Stillman & Birn sketchbook, Zeta series, done over last weekend for another online WetCanvas challenge.  I love the church spire and steeple silhouette against the sunset sky.  The turmoil in the sky adequately reflects the mood of the world towards Christian worship today while the house of worship stands tall and steadfast.

Midnight at the Oasis

22x15 watercolor and wax crayon on 140 lb Saunders Waterford cold press paper painted in 2006.  The camels were drawn using a tiny toy wooden carved camel and background made up.  I sold reproduction rights to a card company and had not ever posted this online or on the blog.  No sign of the three wise men.

Rancho de Taos Spring Sky - Snyder TX demo

15x22 watercolor on Fabriano 140 lb hot press paper done this morning for the Snyder TX Palette Club.  Using my photo of the infamous Rancho de Taos St. Francis Assis in New Mexico, I left the church white, not brown as in real life.  Also I gave it a red roof. A stormy Spring sky was already in place when visiting there in 2007 after doing the Intensive Studies Seminar.  This is the building Georgia O'Keefe made famous.

Greek Church

8x5.5 watercolor on Strathmore Visual Journal mixed media with Micron 01 pen drawn and painted today.  Ref courtesy Maureen on WetCanvas who is hosting this weekend's drawing event in the All Media Art Events forum.  I changed the photo somewhat by extending its edges and elongating the foreground buildings of the old church.  I really like its colorful green rooftops, golden yellow flag, and 3 crosses.  The bluish/purple detail trim I also made up.

Trumpet of the Lord

22x15 watercolor on Italia acquerello 140 lb cold press paper, done yesterday for a challenge on www.WetCanvas.com The angel was actually cemetary statuary so I removed its base and portrayed her as if floating in clouds with her horn calling the saints on in.

The hymn "When the Roll is Called up Yonder" came to mind and the verse "When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound and time shall be no more, and the morning breaks eternal bright and fair..."

Backlit Gray Cat
