Orange Tabby Sleeping

12x9 mixed media on paper done last week using art markers by CaliArt, watercolor, and pencil on mixed media paper. The paper is very slick so the markers performed well. The sleeping orange tabby is oblivious to the season. COPYRIGHT 2021 Kay Smith

Sleeping Midge

4x6 watercolor and Micron 01 pen on a magazine insert card done for an online cat challenge. This is Midget, who goes by Midge, all curled up in her kitty pet bed that is really brown in color. (She's a rescue kitty from our town's kill shelter in 2011). I used a card from F+W Publications' Drawing magazine that I subscribe to for this cat pet portrait. Whiskers were painted around and not masked. I did not plan for Drawing to be across her white fur, it is just how it worked out. COPYRIGHT Kay Smith.

Miss Kitty

5.5x8.5 watercolor on Masters sketchbook paper done last month but it had no ink so couldn't post during InkTober challenge.  This is fellow artist Floyd's cat Miss Kitty sprawled out napping on their garden bench.

Monet's Cat

4.25x5.75 mixed media on magazine card done today in 20 minutes. Drawn with black Tombow brush pen, I used colored markers in spots, then watercolor colored pencils, and broad chisel tip black marker for the bg. Then added water to the cat's body to blend wc CPs.  Its bowtie was left the white of the paper as was the ball fringe around the cushion.

Sleepy Calico kitty

4x6 watercolor on a magazine insert card done recently of a sweet calico asleep on her blue blanket.  I tried to use transparent orange and turquoise blue as these are the colors seen most often in New Mexico.

Sleeping Midge cat

4x6 watercolor and Micron 01 pen on a magazine insert card done yesterday for the 30 Cats in 30 Days challenge on Facebook and on WetCanvas! Meet Midget, who goes by Midge, all curled up in her kitty pet bed that is really brown in color, not lavender blue. (She's a rescue kitty from our town's kill shelter).  I used a card from F+W Publications' Drawing magazine that I subscribe to for this cat pet portrait.  Whiskers were painted around and not masked.  Now all of the artists out there can save their art magazine inserts and do some serious painting on them rather than throwing away.  I did not plan for Drawing to be across her white fur, it is just how it worked out luckily.

Jezebel Napping on Old Chair

6x6 ink on paper using Tombow brush pen completed this weekend of studio cat Jezebel.  One of our Sketchbook Skool assignments was to draw or sketch a live animal asleep every day for a week; not a problem as she sleeps almost all the time now at 14.
