Country Barn in Snow II

12x6 watercolor on 140 lb cold press paper done week before last as a class exercise in painting snowy landscapes with barns. I had painted a first version of this imaginary scene years ago. Old fence posts poke through snow to point the viewer's eye upward as do the smaller branches and bare trees. Backcountry Barn

12x9 watercolor on Fluid 140 lb cold press paper, an imaginary country scene of a rundown old barn. The rocky landscape foreground was fun to paint wet in wet in layers as was the middle ground. The fence is still up so suppose someone is running cattle. Storm clouds are building up overhead. When dry, splattering was done for textural effects. COPYRIGHT 2020 Kay Smith.

Black Mail Pouch Barn

6.5x7.5 watercolor on Langton 140 lb cold press paper by Daler Rowney done for day 3 of the Leslie Saeta blog '30 in 30' challenge where participants around the world post their daily work.  Ref courtesy WetCanvas/Gracie Lives.  This black painted barn was located in Kentucky and the advertising trend for Mail Pouch tobacco began in 1890s and continued thru next century.  With this I have made a dirt road in foreground versus the grass that was there, added tire tracks, more dirt in middle ground, and added a sky.
