Persimmons

8x5.5 mixed media on Strathmore Visual Journal for mixed media done today.  Drawn with Uniball black ink pen from life, the first pigment was Sharpie markers at random, then watercolor colored pencils, two different brands, finishing with watercolor for background.  I did wet the colored pencil areas with a 1/2" flat brush to see how/if colors would mix and blend.  Opaque watercolor for the persimmons' green tops was placed over blue green using Coastal Fog, Prussian blue, and Mint Julep.

Ap-pear-antly Pears!

20x26 watercolor on Yupo synthetic paper, a product that allows pigments to sit on top and look more vibrant as they cannot soak into any tooth.  So an artist must develop textural effects to accommodate. Here in this painting done a few years ago, I have used plain Jane pears and made them come alive.

Apple - torn paper collage

10x10 wrapped canvas, a torn magazine paper collage applied with matte medium after drawing an apple outline.  This is my daily painting for today.  An iPhone is hidden somewhere within; can you find it?

22x13 watercolor demo done a little over a year ago of apples drawn from life then stacked vertically with overlapping shapes, different colors, and negative painting.  The demo was for my studio workshop group.

Three's Company - fruit still life

Beach Babe

18x24 on Canson Montval 140 lb cold press block from one of the children photographed years ago on one of my Puerto Rican trips; photo was in black and white so all color is imaginary. Last night I began this painting but have had her drawn for quite awhile, then finished up this morning.

Summer on a Fork - daily painting

8.5x11 watercolor beach scene/still life combo dreamed up by me who is so desperate to see water, any kind of water and the ocean looks pretty inviting even if it isn't real.  Here the sand stops the tide as the eye seeks the horizon where sea meets sky.  Meanwhile a red melon is being devoured by someone enjoying their summer.  Please send rain to West Texas!!!

Collage WIP Watermelon Still Life

Now you can see what all I got done in 2 more hours today, all of the melon and its pieces, and even going back to adjust values here and there. I thought the red zinnias were a nice touch.

Collage WIP Watermelon next steps

Yesterday I began adding torn red paper from magazines to the meat of the melon and will show values from light to medium to dark in red tones. Today I did its rind, the yellow lemons, and all the grapes. Stay tuned for more as it progresses.
