Fall Fruit & Leaves
8x8 watercolor on Masters Touch premium 140 lb cold press paper completed today for another online WetCanvas challenge; image courtesy Susan/tyree. Participants have 2 hours to choose an image provided and sketch or paint their selection. I thought the fall leaves behind the fruit on a glass plated basket was too colorful to pass up.

Fruit Pickles
5.5x8.5 watercolor and ink (Faber Castell Pitt pen) done today, a work on paper practicing the Sketchbook Skool style of illustrated journaling. With this, you can see a recipe for brine to make quick pickles, whether using fresh fruit or vegetables, to place in canning jars.

June Blueberries
5x7.5 watercolor on Moleskine for watercolor sketchbook done over the past weekend as part of another WetCanvas weekend drawing event where artists have 2 hours to select an image then paint it. In this still life vignette of simple nutritious fruit I have paired reds and greens to set off the usual blueberry hues of blues and indigo colors.

Juicy Fruit Strawberries
10x14 watercolor on Saunders 140 lb cold press paper, a still life of complementary red and green colors in a simple still life set up. Strawberries are not my favorite fruit but I do enjoy painting them a lot.

Dewi's Pomegranates
9x12 watercolor on Canson XL 140 lb cold press paper done over the weekend. These red pomegranates appear more dark toned in the original but show an orange tint on camera. Still life set up was featured on WetCanvas weekend drawing event where Dewi is host and was painted within 2 hour time limit.

Summer Watermelon, Lemons and Grapes
9x12 watercolor on 140 lb cold press Canson paper, done yesterday from an older drawing. Previously I had painted it in abut 5x7 format, sold it, then again a bit differently on a half sheet watercolor paper measuring 15x22, and sold that one. With this last piece I let colors mingle and run and changed the background using American Journey's Blue Bice, my new favorite pigment, quinacridone gold and some arylide yellow.

Asian Persimmons
15x22 watercolor on cold press paper, 140 lb, a fruit and statue still life I photographed using fresh Asian persimmons. They were given to me by my Vietnamese friend Rose. I already had the tall and heavy statue, so set the persimmons on a brocade silk pillow in a sunny window. I wanted it to have a mysterious feel of the Orient.

More Pears on Pepper Plate collage
11x15 watercolor over collage book pages and slick toilet seat covers on acid free matboard; used matte medium to adhere papers to pencil drawing. Paint was applied last. These were fresh pears I put on a large ceramic southwestern pepper motif chip bowl.

Cantaloupe on Dragonfly Plate
11x15 watercolor still life of the first cantaloupe melon of the summer season. After cutting it into slices I set some on a white plate decorated with various insects, then photographed several views for painting. I like the lacy holes the seeds created for a little abstraction within the design.

Pears Ripening
11x15 trio of green pears ripening in my sunny window, first painted about a year and a half ago in which I was not pleased with the results of this watercolor. I've since reworked their shadows and reflected light from the glass window onto the white windowsill.
