Cosmos World ~ First Day of Spring!

9x8 watercolor on this the first day of Spring 20 March! Just some bright pinks, blues, greens and yellows in this airy painting.  Another in my cosmos floral series using photos from my studio garden.

Cosmos Field

5.25x8.25 watercolor done in my grunge/junk journal today, a vintage 1950 book, over gesso on part of the page. I used two of my cosmos photos from 2009 and combined the white flowers with the others.  Although a small format this one really packs a Spring punch as it arrives day after tomorrow.

15x11 watercolor of an imaginary garden scene featuring one of my watering cans collection; cosmos photos were from my studio flowerbed.  This is a happy wish for a nice Spring to arrive next month.

Ruidoso Cosmos

5x7 watercolor on 140 lb hot press paper, a composition of several pink and white cosmos photos taken last weekend.  I found a large and lovely flowerbed at one of Ruidoso's lumberyard/hardware stores (Foxworth Galbraith) where lots of varieties were growing.

January Cosmos

9x12 watercolor on Canson 140 lb cold press paper done a few days ago as part of another WetCanvas challenge.  I loved the white petals of this cosmos signifying purity of the new year and placed an abstract background to support it.

Bee on White Cosmos

11x14 watercolor on Kilimanjaro 140 lb cold press paper begun yesterday and finished today. The busy bee was hard to get its transparent wings to look paper thin so I did use a tiny amount of white gouache on the left wing tip. I put together a combo from my cosmos and insects refs for this garden and nature painting.

Cosmopolitan Cosmos

15x22 watercolor on 140 lb cold press paper, one of my early florals of a spray of mixed cosmos blooms.  I used a silk arrangement in a glass vase sold by a mail order company named Petals, who went out of business, but not before I was able to buy lots of their designs. I use the lifelike flowers to sketch from or paint.  This work is SOLD.
