Apple Jars

6x8 acrylics on Masters Touch 140 lb cold press paper done today for an online WetCanvas challenge in the Acrylic forum (ref courtesy RIL). The challenge was to only work with analogous colors or complementary ones. I chose analogous: dark red, royal red, orange, peach, yellow, along with black and white. So no blues. Polkadot Apple

8.5x8.5 mixed media collage on paper done today.  Using the soft toned back side of a failed alcohol ink, I brush sketched an apple outline in acrylics, then negatively painted the fruit.  Since most of the blotchy color was yellow green I went with red and turquoise spice colors as accents.  Torn polkadot red tissue paper was added in three places.  Black India ink was put on at the top stem.  Cast shadow was blue mixed with a bit of cadmium red acrylics and background was a mixed grey of palette colors.

August Apples

6x9 watercolor and ink on paper done week before last on vacation in New Mexico, a state that grows many apples that are evident even in August.  They are famous for their Hatch chiles and cherries and pistachios.  Drawn with Micron 01 pen, this illustrated journal art shows apple varieties Jazz, Gala, and Envy.

Apple Buckets - completed

15x11 watercolor on Canson 140 lb cold press paper finished today from the work in progress.  Foreground is layered with midtones and darks, different values and strokes of grasses, leaves, and twigs.  More burnt sienna and quinacridone burnt orange added to shadow side of upright bucket with some splattering to indicate dings and dents.  Also I widened the apple tree trunk on the right side and glazed the bark with quin burnt orange.  Background leafy tree now has darker shadowed leaves on its left side.  Distant tree line on far right was put in for depth, distance and balance.  All in all am pleased with how this still life in a landscape turned out.

Delicious Apples

6x6 watercolor and Pigma Micron 01 pen of a group of imaginary red and green apples, painted a few days ago.  I have been busy doing 1-2 drawings a day then painting them later.  This was fun as I did splattering when dry using contrasting paint.  Some varieties are Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, McIntosh, etc.

Apple - torn paper collage
