Pam's Boot

Heliopsis Fake Sunflowers

14x10 watercolor on Stonehenge 140 lb hot press paper done over this past weekend for another WetCanvas online challenge (photo courtesy Maureen).  These flowers resemble rudbeckias (blackeyed Susans and sunflowers except their petals face downwards and flare out at the bottom like little skirts.

Ann's Garden Variety

Heat Wave Sunflowers

15x22 watermedia on 140 lb cold press paper done in 2011, a work in progress of various sunflower faces.  I showed the WIP stages on this blog HERE.  It began with loose yellow acrylics and coffee filters and gauze were used.  Curious? Scarecrows

22x15 watercolor on gessoed matboard drawn from two dollar store scarecrows I bought several years ago.  I had them set up in a patch of Maximilian sunflowers along my studio fence so they looked right at home doing their job of scaring crows away.

Sunflower Sizzlers WIP

 Now you can get a close up detail view of the top uppermost bloom and the one to its immediate right which will be more yellow tones.

With this view most of the upper half is done and along the right side.  I'll need to emphasize the right largest sunflower bloom and make it more red so as to stand out from the rest of the crowd.  Stay tuned for more work in progress in which I will post the finished vases and tablecloth.

Quaint Country Patterns
