Summer Petals

18x6 alcohol inks on white freezer/deli paper done this afternoon using Eggplant and Cloudy Blue, then Willow for the stem and leaves.  We still have more than a month left of summer so now is a good time to paint florals.

Orange Sherbet Poppy

6x4 alcohol inks and ink (Micron 01 pen) on professional photo paper that was one of the demos done at my last workshop class on Feb. 10.  With this technique you simply introduce line, a design element, into a large shape such as the pale orange ink to indicate more realism.

Remnant Rose

6x4 alcohol inks done this past Saturday at the close of class using leftover ink a student had.  Mixed with more alcohol I made a nice rosebud.  The stem is also ink green + black applied with a chopstick tip.

Yellow Red Bloom Power

6x4 alcohol inks done last month on professional photo paper, an exercise in floral abstraction using only two colors for the bloom and Lettuce for stem and leaf.

Floral Glow

4x6 alcohol ink on professional photo paper done recently as a quickie demo.  I love the hot red at the base of the flower, then orange-red, followed by hot pink.  Green is made with the color Lettuce and is very natural appearing.

Fluffy Parrot Tulip

11x9 alcohol inks on white 3/18" foamcore board done this evening as a quickie since studio time was short today.  Only four colors of ink was used along with canned air to force ink to spread upwards and in streaks.  Background is left white of the board and is not enhanced.  Tulip stem is made with drops of ink on tip of a wooden chopstick to control it; I used two greens, Juniper and Lime.  Flower bottom edges were smoothed using cotton swab tip dipped in 91% alcohol.
